TomTom Introduce Travel Live Services at IFA 2011

Just before the 2011 IFA Expo in Berlin last week TomTom announced additions to their Live Services portfolio. Building on the success of the Live Traffic TomTom have now added Live Travel Services. Effectively this is an integration of Expedia, Trip Advisor, Yelp and Twitter. The services allow you to access information from the portals directly on the TomTom SatNav. This dramatically increases the amount of information available on your journey, and is integrated into the navigation engine. Unfortunately it would appear as if TomTom have simply bolted the services on the their navigation functionality rather than stand back and look at how a user would likely use the service. For instance having found a hotel on Expedia having gone through a search and selection process the natural thing to do is check the hotel out on Trip Advisor. This is where the whole system is disjointed as you now have to go back to Live Services then do a search and select using trip advisor. A much more natural usage model would be to link to Expedia and Trip Advisor from the POI details rather than having to restart the search from scratch. That aside the information looks good and can be a valuable addition to the navigation experience. The services will be launched in Germany and USA as a trial before being rolled out to the other countries where TomTom Live is available. Our video features Stephane Hareau, TomTom Director of New Products showing us how the new Travel Live Services work.

GPS Navigators For Cars - A Much Needed Tool

!±8± GPS Navigators For Cars - A Much Needed Tool

If you have used any kind of GPS system to get around it's hard to imagine not using one. The most useful tools now a days are the GPS navigators for cars. These units are extremely helpful for getting you around town and saving you time while doing it. It doesn't matter how well you know your city there are still times when you can get lost. I know there have been times when I turned down a street and some how I got all turned around and it took several minutes to find my way back on track.

The TomTom was the first GPS system that I remember hearing about. I remember thinking what a great invention has I recalled the many times a device like that would have come in handy for me. These systems have come a long way since I first saw that TomTom and many of them do a lot more then just guide you along your travels. Newer cars now a days have navigation systems as part of the car itself. But those also usually require a monthly fee in order to use them.

However, the GPS navigators for cars like the TomTom or the Garmin 360 don't require a fee. Once you buy one it's just a matter of turning on setting it for your destination and going on your way. These devices are very sophisticated and are usually loaded with other features beside navigation. Some of the features you can find with these systems are preloaded maps of not just the US but other countries as well, the ability to calculate the fastest route to take, some even come with Bluetooth technology and built in microphone and speakers and allow you to make phone calls. There even some that mp3 players built in.

Some of the manufactures of GPS navigators for cars TomTom, Garmin and Magellan. Although TomTom has been in the business longer they come in second place to Garmin in the GPS game. Garmin has consistently come out with innovative and quality products. The systems are frequently filled with features that can't be found in other systems.

However, featured filled or not in the end it comes down to you are looking for in a navigation system. After all maybe you don't need a lot features. Maybe you just want a system that will just get you to your destination fast and easy and that's good too.

TomTom Go 720 Gps review - great Than Garmin

!±8± TomTom Go 720 Gps review - great Than Garmin

Although Garmin has been manufacture many of the best-selling Gps navigators in the market, many contentious companies are beginning to roll out a slew of impressive devices. Some of them have even proved to be formidable competitors. The TomTom Go 720, for instance, is in my view much good than many Garmin Gps models in the market.

The TomTom Go 720 has a 4.3-inch Lcd screen for displaying the maps. It is a touch-screen and displays images in a 480 x 272 resolution. This model uses a lithium polymer battery than can last up to 5 hours on a particular charge. For connectivity, this device has a Usb port, a Sd memory card slot and has Bluetooth capabilities.

The TomTom Go 720 has a unique found that is a refreshing break from the already boring Garmin designs. From the front, it is mostly rectangular with a petite arch on the top. It measures just 4.6 x 0.9 x 3.3 inches in dimensions and weighs at 7.8 ounces. Most of the connectors are located below the device. The speaker is located behind the unit.

Some of the best features of this model can be found in its navigational applications. Many of the features that are found on the 720 can only be found in high-end Garmin models that are much more expensive than this one. There are also many features that are not found on Garmin Gps navigators.

TomTom Gps devices integrate the Map Share highlight that allow users to modernize their maps and share their updates with each other. This way, users will be able to get frequent updates on the most recent alterations to road systems. Carrying out wise, the device was quite speedy where it gave directions and recalculated routes rather quickly. The maps and points of interest were also very comprehensive. Other cool features on the TomTom Go 720 comprise the Buddies highlight (that allows you to search other TomTom users), Bluetooth (that allows you to make calls through the device), and text-to-speech functions, just to name a few.
